Attract Mode / Editorial policy
Know what you’re choosing to play.
A useful game page should tell you how a game plays, who made it and what we checked. This is how Attract Mode researches listings, selects Daily Picks, handles player reviews and corrects published information.
What a listing means
We research public browser games and accept developer submissions. Pages describe the playable build, its creator and the evidence available to us. Inclusion does not mean the developer has claimed the page, integrated our account system or entered a commercial partnership.
We look for a game with a concrete reason to play: a distinctive mechanic or experience, or substantive positive feedback from players. Likes on a trailer are not evidence of a good play session. A submission does not guarantee publication, and we do not add games just to fill a category.
Facts come from identifiable sources
We start with the game, its official creator page, announcements and development notes. Game and studio pages link to the sources behind their descriptions. Release dates, announcement dates and later updates are different events; we keep that distinction when the evidence supports it.
Descriptions explain mechanics, genre, creator and documented history in our own words. We do not invent a studio’s background, call a planned feature available or treat unverified popularity as fact. When a creator has shared little about themselves, we stick to their documented work.
We prefer real game screenshots and developer media with recorded provenance. A source link is not permission to reuse everything on that site. Generated fallback artwork must be identified as such; it cannot stand in for evidence of gameplay. A developer logo is shown only when we have identified it as a logo.
A play check has a scope
“Our check” describes the actual session: what we opened, which inputs or modes we tried and what happened. Reaching a menu is not the same as finishing a match. Checking desktop Chrome does not establish phone compatibility. We name those limits when they matter.
The play-check date belongs to that session. Editing a description does not create a new playtest or make a game newly discovered. Games can change after a visit, so a dated observation is not a promise about every device or later version.
Why a game gets featured
Daily Picks explain a specific reason to try a game and retain the date, source links and actual selection in the public archive. These are editorial choices, not paid placements or endorsements by the developer. A listed game is not automatically a Daily Pick.
We also make False Start. Its featured homepage position is an in-house placement, separate from Daily Picks and player ratings. You should know that relationship when deciding what to play.
Player reviews stay separate from our notes
Players with a verified Attract Mode account can leave one rating per game, from one to five stars, with a written review. An average appears after five approved ratings. Our play notes and featured placement do not add ratings to that average.
Reviews, comments and developer replies go through moderation. New or edited text stays pending until approved. Criticism and low scores are allowed. Harassment, hate, explicit content, spam and private personal information are not. Links remain plain text rather than clickable links.
Developer reply labels come from approved access to the game, not a matching display name or an unreviewed claim. Reporting content sends it for review; it does not give another player control over the discussion.
Correct a page or claim your work
If a fact, credit, image or link is wrong, email hello@attractmode.io with the page URL, the specific issue and a source we can check. For a media-rights concern, identify the material and your relationship to it. We review the evidence rather than accepting a change because someone requested it.
Developers can use the workspace to claim a page and propose changes. The claim flow checks control of an established identity through its supported proof routes. An operator reviews the evidence and grants access only to the approved page and role. Public X posting is optional; website and DNS proof routes are also available.
Proposed page changes receive a separate review. Approval queues a change for publication; it does not mean the live page has changed yet. Page verification does not grant access to player data, billing or account-client administration. See the publishing and claims guide for the full process.
